How is a talent manager different from an executive recruiter?

Talent managers and executive recruiters both play a crucial role in matching executives with the right position in growing companies. Unlike executive recruiters, who work for a company or non-profit, talent managers work for you! We aren’t limited, as an executive recruiter is, to trying to find a fit between you and a specific company.   We help you identify the right opportunities no matter what organization or entity they are with.

We also reach beyond the standard resume preparation and interview advising to helping you to manage both your career and your public profile – identifying board and advisory board seats on which to serve to increase your influence; organizations you could join to maximize your connections; and speaking opportunities at conferences and events that will allow you to build your brand as an expert in your area. We also act as your ‘agent’ – evangelizing your expertise and introducing you to potential hiring managers, companies and organizations as appropriate.

How will you help me prepare for an interview?

Interview preparation is a critical component of the talent management process – we want you to shine! We will help you to polish your resume, craft your talking points, research your potential employer, fine tune your ‘rough spots’ and project the image you want to project. We also debrief with you during each step in the process. We serve as a sounding board to help you clarify your message and position yourself for your dream job. We also try to prevent you from ‘falling in love’ with the first opportunity if it’s not the right one for you. We serve as your trusted, confidential advisor – giving you the benefit of our many years of experience helping executives identify and land their prefect job.

I am in transition between corporate America and a non-profit or consulting role, can you help?

We specialize in career transitions, especially those that involve transitioning from one career path (corporate) to another (non-profit, consulting, government, starting a company). We have the expertise to assess your skill set, strengths and expertise and strategically reposition you for new, exciting career opportunities and directions. Many executives seek more meaning in their careers. Even if you’re not ready to leave your present position, there are many ways we can help you to align your work with your values and fulfill your desire to make a difference in the world as a local and a global citizen.

I don’t want a new job -- I have an idea for a new company. Can you help?

Our team has years of experience advising young companies and building new businesses. Whether you need help honing your pitch, crafting your business model or identifying key partners and advisors, we will improve your chances of success by providing sharing our expertise and facilitating key introductions. We have connections with many of the top funders and service providers (attorneys, bankers) who work with new ventures.

I have a great resume but I have not created an online profile. Is that really necessary?

Most of us turn to the web as our first stop when researching a candidate for a new position –whether we’re assessing them to join a board, lead a team or launch a company. Having the right online ‘brand’ is critical to positioning yourself as an expert in your field and as an experienced executive who is ready for new opportunities. We will work with you to create an online profile on Linked In and Facebook that showcases your background and links you to the crucial networks in your area(s) of interest or specialty. We also have experts who can build or enhance your personal website, if needed.
